LEAD WITH LOVE // JUSTICE, REDEMPTION, HOPE + HEALING
In recent years, Lead With Love had organized several major impact campaigns, music and film tours inside prisons throughout California and in communities impacted by incarceration alongside clients like Common, Sol Guy and more. Below is some of the produced content from these visits and engagements captured by Sade C. Joseph, One9, JT Gallery and more.
The Hope & Redemption Tour (Prison Concerts + Visits): “As an artist, I believe it is my duty to fight injustice wherever it appears and take a stand for my fellow brothers and sisters.” Common. Lead With Love Founder Michael Latt developed the framework for The Hope & Redemption Prison Tour and worked with Common alongside Scott Budnick, non-profit partners and more to host 10+ concerts in 10+ different prisons throughout California to bring joy, hope and love to the people inside men and women’s prisons. On March 28, 2017, Common kicked off the Tour by playing 3 shows in 3 different prisons (Ironwood, Calipatria and CIW Prison) in 3 consecutive days. Throughout the tour, we brought in cameras to capture the stories of the men and women we met inside prison and amplify their voices beyond the prison walls.

The Hope & Redemption Tour (Impact + Advocacy Work): As part of the Tour, Common hosted a special free community concert, Imagine Justice, on the grounds of the Capitol building in Sacramento in 2017 with J. Cole, Andra Day, Ledisi, Goapele and more to advocate for criminal justice reform and share a message of compassion and justice for an audience of 30,000+ people. The day after the Concert, Common joined leading local leaders in the State Capitol for meetings with former Governor Jerry Brown and more to discuss a number of criminal justice reform bills that were all eventually signed into law that September including SB 394 and SB 395 that ended the practice of juveniles being sentenced to life without parole. Following his visit to the State Capitol, Common traveled to Folsom State Prison to perform for the men inside. We also hosted a series of special events in Stockton, Bakersfield, Fresno, Merced and more to engage local communities and support leading non-profit organizations.

Healing Through Creative Practice (2022 - 2023): Lead With Love worked with Sol Guy, Quiet and several non-profit partners (Creative Acts, Anti-Recidivism Coalition, etc.) to host a series of visits centered around screenings of Sol Guy's documentary The Death Of My Two Fathers that also included group circle discussions, guided healing practices like meditation and more.
“My teacher from InsideOUT Writers told me it’s not about becoming a new person — it’s finding the person that you really are. I want to find Joseph, the little kid that loves everybody, who was curious and loved to hug people, and loved to see people smile. That’s the Joseph that I want back.” Joseph Sena, one of the young men we met at Valley State Prison (VSP). For the special visit to Valley State Prison (VSP), Lead With Love invited AP News Journalist Aaron L. Morrison inside with the team to amplify the voices of the men incarcerated at VSP. Our Founder Michael Latt led the VSP Visit alongside Sol Guy, Bobby Gonz, Scott Budnick, ARC, Quiet and more that included a transformative and inspiring day of programming. The videos below were produced by AP News.
